Hadley is a township of about 4,500 people with no real village center, and that is the appeal. It sits in the same rolling, wooded country as Metamora and shares the Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area with it — 723 acres of lake, campground and trails on the township's doorstep.

Buyers come here for land. Wooded lots, hobby farms, custom homes set well back from the road, and parcel sizes that would be unthinkable closer to Detroit. It is quiet in a way that suits some people enormously and not others at all, which is worth being honest with yourself about before you tour.

School district is the one thing to confirm parcel by parcel here — township boundaries and district boundaries do not line up, so two properties on the same road can feed different schools. Lapeer is a short drive east; Ortonville, Goodrich and I-75 are west.
