Living in Metamora, Michigan

Metamora is the center of Michigan's best-known equestrian district. The Metamora Hunt, founded in 1928, is one of the oldest organized fox hunting associations in the Midwest, and in autumn you will meet hounds and riders taking up an entire dirt road. The landscape follows from that: rolling countryside, horse farms, historic barns and riding trails, with fence lines rather than sidewalks defining most properties.

Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area covers 723 acres about eight miles south of Lapeer, wrapped around the 80-acre Lake Minnewanna. There is a modern campground, a designated swim area, a fishing pier, picnic grounds and roughly six miles of trails — enough that it functions as the area's back yard rather than somewhere you visit once.

The village itself is small; most of what sells here is acreage and estate property in the surrounding township, and it holds value accordingly. Lapeer is about 15 minutes north, and M-24 runs south toward Oxford and Lake Orion for anyone commuting into Oakland County.
